Extension Lecture on Diabetic Retinopathy



Khanna - Renowned Eye Specialist Dr. Sarbjit Singh,   Dr. R. S. Gurna, Dr. A. K. Singla and Dr. Gurmit Singh honoured Dr. Sarbjit Singh after the lecture.  delivered a talk on Diabetic Retinopathy at A. S. College, Khanna. Dr. R. S. Jhanji welcomed and introduced Dr. Sarbjit Singh to the staff and students. Dr. Singh gave a detailed account of anatomy of eye, effect of diabetes on functioning of eyes and problems caused by it. He deliberated on diagnostic and treatment procedures like funduscopy, OCT, angiography of eye and laser techniques. He emphasized that prevention is better than cure. Cholesterol levels and blood pressure should be maintained. In a person affected with diabetes Hb1AC should be kept below 7.0 m MOL. According to International Diabetes Federation the annual cost of diabetes cure was 673 billion dollars in 2015. A diabetic patient should get his eyes checked up regularly particularly when there is frequent change in eye sight. He advised to completely give up smoking for healthy eyes.
