15th Annual Athletic Meet



 04th  of March. 2015, Mata Ganga Khalsa College for girls, Kottan (Under the management of SGPC, Sri Amritsar) organized its 15th Annual Athletic Meet. The blessings of God were invoked with the recitation of ‘Deh Shiva Var Mohe’. S. Avtar Singh Secretary (S.G.P.C., Sri Amritsar) was the Chief guest in the morning session. Addressing the students he emphasised the importance of sports in our life . S. Inderjit Singh Lopon Vice President Local College Managing Committee, S. Raghbir Singh Saharanmajra (Addl. Secy, Local  College Managing Committee, S. Gurdeep Singh Kang Gurudwara Ranwa, S. Jagir Singh Manager, Gurudwara Manji Sahib, Kottan, and  eminent personalities attended the function. 
Dr. Jatinder Kaur Principal welcomed the guests with bouquets. She presented the Annual Report (2014-15) of the college. She emphasised the need for team spirit, discipline, leadership qualities and physical fitness  for proper mental and physical development. The sports and games should be made an integral part of the curriculum to enable students to lead a healthy life as our lives are getting faster and stressful.  The Chief Guest unfurled the flag and Pigeons were released to mark the spirit of independence and peace.
The students displaying the spirit of sportsmanship enthusiastically participated in various events which included 400 m, 200 m, 100m race , three legged race, sack race, chatti race, Slow cycling, Shot Put, Long Jump and many others. Many students participated with great zest and zeal and won prizes in different events of field and track. Skit was performed by the students on the prevailing condition of youth and their problems. The most interesting part of the Athletic meet was the game ‘Pass the Ball’ which was won by Ms Navjot Kaur of Commerce Dept. and the Tug-of-war  was won by B.A IInd  year Group .Ms Jaspreet Kaur of B.A .II was adjudged Best Athlete. Musical chairs for the guests was won by S. Rajwinder Singh Sohal SP (Headquarters)
  S. Gurinder Singh Dhillon DIG , ( Ludhiana Range) was the Chief Guest for the distribution of prizes in the evening session. Highlighting the importance of sports in life, S. Gurinder Singh Dhillon in his address said the true spirit of sportsman ship was not only winning but participating. He motivated the students to play the games with energy and vigour so that they become better citizens of India. Girls should also join the forces and strengthen the power of  their country. He motivated them to achieve high ideals and goals in life and  congratulated the winners of various events. He further inspired them to inculcate the doctrine of self discipline in life as everything can be achieved with hard work and positive attitude.
S. Inderjit Singh Nikku and Upkar Sandhu, popular singers of Punjabi  film industry enthralled the audience with their  melodious voices. Aerobics and Giddha were presented by college teams in the closing ceremony. Vote of thanks was presented by S. Raghbir Singh Ji Saharnmajra and he thanked the guests for sharing their valuable thoughts and sparing some precious moments from their busy schedule.  At the end, the ceremony of unfurling the flag was performed by the Chief Guest, Principal and various athletes.
